Jewellery Care

CareThere are several things you can do to preserve the brilliance or your jewels after you purchase them. You always want to protect your gems from scratches, chemicals and even extreme temperature. Even sunlight can fade some gemstones. When you are doing household chores and outdoor activities you should remove your rings. Chlorine can damage some gems, and gold. Gemstones may even loosen when swimming in chlorinated water, increasing the risk of your stone falling out of its setting.  Always remove your rings before you enter swimming pools or Jacuzzis. Never store your pearls in a plastic bag!

If you store silver in plastic bags with an interlocking seal, it will be less prone to tarnish. You can polish silver by buffing with a soft cotton cloth. Make sure to have your jeweller examine the prongs holding your gems in your ring often. Prongs do wear down and can break, which will make your gemstone unsecure and the possibility is great that it will fall out of the setting and be lost.

Clean your Ammolite jewellery by using a soft, damp cloth to gently wipe away any marks or dirt. Do not use ultrasonic cleaning equipment, detergents or chemicals to clean your Ammolite jewellery.

We recommend that you limit contact with water while wearing Ammolite. Some locales have high mineral content in the water. These minerals can deposit on the surface of the Ammolite & setting, damaging the finish of your jewellery. As with all fine jewellery care should be taken to avoid direct exposure to soaps, detergents, cleaners & other chemicals.

Avoid exposure to intense, direct heat.

Store your Ammolite jewellery in it’s original box when your not wearing it. Hard impacts can damage the setting or damage a finished Ammolite gem.

Cultured pearls are precious jewels and need special care to maintain their luster. Do not toss pearls into a jewellery box amongst other metals and stones since the pearls can easily scratch. Be sure to return pearls back into their original boxes provided at purchase. Always put pearls on after applying perfumes and hairsprays. Do not clean pearls with chemicals or abrasives. Wipe clean with a soft cloth after wearing or use pearl cleaner purchased at Richardson’s. Have your pearl strands checked every few years for restringing since ordinary wear can weaken or stretch the silk threads on which the pearls are strung.
